FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

HUMANITY

We seek to prevent and alleviate human suffering throughout the country and promote respect for humanity.

IMPARTIALITY

Regardless of nationality, race, religious, class or political opinions, we help people solely in accordance with their needs and we do not seek to determine guilt.

NEUTRALITY

Everyone must be able to turn to the Red Cross with unlimited and total trust. We refrain from taking sides in any hostility or political, racial, religious or ideological dispute.

INDEPENDENCE

The National societies are independent, though auxiliary to public authorities as a voluntary aid society and subject to the law of the country.

VOLUNTARY SERVICE

We offer our help voluntarily without desire for gain.

UNITY

There can only be one Red Cross or Red Crescent Society in any one country, it is open to all and works throughout the country.

UNIVERSALITY

The International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is a worldwide organization in which all Societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other.
